Welcome back! We are so excited to share the 2025 Winter edition of The 1600 with you, which we have spent months putting together with writers across grades (and a teacher)! Since our last edition, our country has experienced a sizable political and cultural shift starting in the White House and dispersing into all corners of life. The release of this edition following such a large change in our society can serve as a reminder that change starts from the ground up. In the words of former president Barack Obama, “The future belongs to young people with an education and the imagination to create.” This idea is one that is undoubtedly reflected in a newspaper which is both for and by students; as individuals and as a community, we have immense power to enact change. Relish the opportunity for free press within our school and take this moment to reflect on the change you want to see in the world. Lastly, enjoy reading the powerful words of your peers who worked tirelessly over the last few months to make their voices heard through the press: the first step to reshaping society.
Until next time,
Serena Payne and Tillie Solomon
