On February 7, 2026, Marin Academy lost a valuable member of our community: beloved ceramics teacher Anne Maurice, who was part of MA for 43 years. Anne shaped generations of students with her steady and joyful presence, leaving a lasting impact on MA’s art program and everyone who passed through her classroom.
While Anne was our teacher first, she was also a friend. From her daily banter to the funny videos we made together, her classroom was always filled with laughter. Tommy Winship ‘26 said, “Anne was an amazing person and friend. She made fun of us and was so goofy every day.” At the same time Anne challenged her students to grow. Sadie Goodenough ‘26 added, “I feel like Anne allowed me to try new things and always pushed me further in my work. She was such a kind person and always wanted the best for her students.”
Her impact extended beyond students. As the art teachers wrote, “Being around Anne made you want to do better—not out of pressure, but because you felt supported. She gave so much to her students and to her colleagues, and many of us continued learning from her long after leaving her classroom.”
In a 2012 interview with Head of School Travis Brownley, Anne said, “That’s my favorite part of teaching: seeing the joy and pride students feel when they have created something they’re proud of.” That joy continues in her classroom, as her students carry forward the skills, creativity, and confidence she helped shape.
