At Marin Academy, there is a club for every interest. Even if there are not any clubs you are interested in, you are capable of creating your own club and running it yourself. That is the beauty of Marin Academy. There is a place for everyone. The Baking Club, Glimmer Club, and the IDD Alliance Club are all wonderful examples of the variety of things at MA. While many people are interested in helping the community, there are others who simply want to spend lunch baking delicious snacks! Which brings us to the Baking Club.
"We decorate cookies, talk about our favorite desserts, and create new fun recipes!" (Skye Haynes, Baking Club leader). If you are interested in sweet treats, cooking, fun times, and a chill environment, join the Baking Club! The leaders of the Baking Club are: Skye Haynes, Molly Deason, and Paige Leary. While they have not yet hosted an official club meeting, they had a wonderful turnout at the activities fair, where they ran out of their ingredients because so many people showed up. At the activities fair, "We made edible cookie dough that tasted delicious!" (Cayla Haynes). However, the suspicious behavior of not yet hosting a club meeting has led many people to suspect the reliability of a club. Can a club even be official if they have not even hosted any meetings?
However, the unofficial Baking Club is not all Marin Academy has to offer. If you are interested in connecting with others and building relationships, join the IDD Alliance Club! The leaders of this club are: Lily Weaver, Issa Block-Kwong, and Lucinda Sent. IDD Alliance stands for Intellectual Development Disability Alliance. This is a program they have founded where students can sign up to volunteer at the Friend Zone at lunch. The Friend Zone is a nonprofit social clubhouse for people without disabilities to connect with people with them. In this club, they "connect with the disabled residents and build relationships with them" (Lucinda Sent, IDD Alliance Club leader). The goal of their club is to build relationships between the people with disabilities and the people with them. Additionally, unlike the Baking Club, the IDD Alliance Club has hosted many club meetings so far where they have gone to the Friend Zone and helped out!
"The goal of Glimmer Club is to empower women and teach club members more about Project Glimmer's mission. We want to have a place where people can have fun, make a difference, and understand the impact that they are making." -Taj Chattha. If you are looking for a way to give back to people and make a difference in the lives of young girls, Glimmer Club is the place for you! The leaders are Taj, Ava, and Rachel. Their club assembles joy boxes for girls in foster care filled with items such as makeup and skin care products. They have had two meetings this year, one being the activities fair, and they have completed three joy boxes in total with the help of fellow MA students! By the end of this school year, they hope to have assembled many joy boxes and host even more meetings. If many people show up and bring their friends, this will make a big difference in the lives of many young girls!
Marin Academy has lots of different clubs to offer, whether you are interested in helping people, playing music with friends, or even baking! While some of these clubs don't meet as often as they should, if ever, MA is a safe space for students to branch out and meet new people, which can be accomplished if you join the right club.
