Fashion is always evolving, and this Fall I am really into contrast—mixing bold and chunky jewelry with clothing free of funky patterns, and combining dramatic silhouettes to cultivate an effortless vibe. Let’s break down what’s on the rise and how to make it work for you. 

Stripes! With a fresh twist. Rather than the classic sailor look, think of a simple yet colorful combination. Stripes can be anywhere from your socks to your sweater and go with everything. I even love stripes on stripes sometimes. Some other ways to incorporate stripes: knit or jersey striped shirts (long sleeves are great if this winter is as extreme as this summer was), striped oxford, pinstripe denim pants, or a striped scarf. Stripes offer a way to stand out without going overboard. 

Silver or gold? Both! Together! Forget the rule that they can’t be mixed. It's more about if the vibe of the pieces match rather than their color. I wouldn’t pair a dainty chain necklace with a big solid bracelet, even if they’re both gold, but I would combine two chunky rings, regardless of metal type. I’ve been really into chunky rings that draw attention to a cute manicure, and bold earrings that make a statement. These accessories bring a powerful edge, even to a simple outfit.

On the topic of silhouettes, the vibe is dramatic but sleek. Think oversized jeans, with a big jacket or a loose top. Another rule I’m leaving behind is that baggy on baggy is not allowed–fashion isn’t always about being “flattering,” and I think oversized outfits are so fun! Your outfit feels effortlessly put together, making it look elevated with little effort. 

Messy hairdos are in–with looser, undone styles taking over from the slicked-back looks of last year. Think effortless and nonuniform waves, volume, and body, or tousled updos.

This year, I’m trying to embody a balance between bold and understated, and look chic but not like I’m trying too hard, and hopefully, I'm not. My advice is to let go of any fashion “rules” and pair new things together. It will make your outfit new and exciting for you!
