Is AI the superhero we’ve been waiting for or the villain we didn’t see coming? ChatGPT wrote that hook. As artificial intelligence has been integrated into our daily lives, controversy has arisen surrounding its usage. AI represents a new era of technology, but each benefit comes with its disadvantages. AI is constantly improving with the addition of new information (training data) and feedback from users. However, this data is not always accurate or unbiased. Plus, AI bots can do human jobs, increasing companies’ financial stability, but also decreasing job opportunities. Many worry that AI will make traditional practices absolute. Also, because AI can generate helpful ideas, humans have started to depend on it for writing emails, completing projects, doing research, and more, which results in loss of skills like problem solving and critical thinking. An integral part of learning is challenging yourself and being creative, but AI can limit that by providing a quick and easy answer instead. Plus, bots such as ChatGPT are tailored to you. This is done by saving your data, which could result in a personal data breach. Still, there isn’t a definitive answer for whether AI is beneficial or harmful. It comes down to your biases, morals, and beliefs. One thing is certain: as society moves forward, AI will become more prevalent, for better or for worse.
